Our Company
We started Orenda Works because people operations rarely get the attention they deserve.
A small advisory built on the belief that how an organisation treats its everyday people matters matters deeply — and that small improvements compound over time.
Back to HomeOur Story
Built around the real work of running a team.
Orenda Works was founded in Petaling Jaya by a small group of advisors who had spent years working inside Malaysian organisations — growing companies, mid-sized firms, and the occasional large employer — watching the same pattern repeat itself. Leadership knew things were not quite right with how the team operated day to day. Onboarding was inconsistent, recognition was informal to the point of invisibility, and internal communication ran on improvised habits rather than clear norms. But no one had time to sit down and sort it out properly.
We set up Orenda Works to address that gap. Our focus is deliberately narrow: we do not offer statutory HR compliance services, we are not an employment law practice, and we do not build HR software. What we do is sit alongside your team, understand how things actually work day to day, and help you put cleaner, kinder, more reliable habits in place.
The name Orenda is borrowed from an older concept meaning the inherent power a person or group carries within them. We think most organisations already have what they need — they just need better structure around it.
Our Mission
To help Malaysian organisations build people operations that are clear, fair, and worth investing in — one practical, well-documented engagement at a time.
Our Vision
A Malaysia where growing organisations — regardless of size — treat good people practices as a standard part of running well, not a luxury for later.
Our Values
Honesty over flattery. Practical over perfect. Respectful above everything. We do not oversell what we can do — we do the work carefully and hand it over well.
The People Behind It
A small team. Quite experienced.
We keep the team intentionally small so that every engagement is led by someone who knows your industry and your context.
Nurul Syafiqah
Lead Advisor, People Operations
Nurul brings over a decade of experience advising Malaysian firms on people habits and operational culture, with particular depth in the professional services and technology sectors.
Ruzaini Amir
Advisory Lead, Workplace Culture
Ruzaini focuses on facilitation and workplace communication. He has run culture programmes across Selangor, KL, and Penang, working mainly with firms in their second phase of growth.
Lim Wei Ting
Operations & Documentation Lead
Wei Ting leads the documentation and handover side of our Team Operations Engagements. She makes sure every template and process map we produce is actually usable by the people who receive it.
How We Work
Standards we hold ourselves to.
Written Deliverables Every Time
Every engagement closes with something in writing — a suggestions note, a process document, or a guide. We do not leave you with verbal impressions alone.
Strict Confidentiality
What your organisation shares with us stays with us. We do not discuss client specifics with other clients, and we sign a simple confidentiality agreement at the start of every engagement.
Advisor-Led, Not Delegated
The senior advisor you speak with during scoping is the person who leads your engagement. We do not pass your work to a junior team member once the contract is signed.
Honest Scope Conversations
If your situation is outside what we do — statutory compliance, employment law, payroll systems — we will tell you upfront rather than take the engagement and work around the edges.
Clear Timelines
We agree a timeline at the start and keep to it. If something changes, we talk about it openly rather than quietly extending the schedule without notice.
Respectful Working Style
We do not adopt a top-down consulting posture. Sessions are collaborative, feedback is offered rather than imposed, and your team leads the decisions about what to actually change.
People Operations in the Malaysian Context
Why everyday operations matter more than most organisations realise.
In Malaysia's mid-market, the people function is often the last to get formalised. Leadership is busy growing the business; the HR work gets handled by someone who is also doing three other things. Onboarding looks different depending on who the new hire's manager is. Recognition happens when someone thinks of it. Communication flows through WhatsApp groups that no one fully controls. These are not catastrophic problems, but they have a steady, quiet cost.
Orenda Works focuses on the operational layer of people management — the routines, the habits, the informal norms that determine whether your team feels oriented, appreciated, and clear about how work moves forward. This is not regulated territory. It does not require a licensed HR practitioner. It requires careful observation, good questions, and the patience to build tools that fit the actual people and organisation involved.
Our advisors have worked inside and alongside organisations across Petaling Jaya, Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam, and further afield in Penang and Johor Bahru. We understand the practical shape of Malaysian workplace culture — its multilingual texture, its hierarchy sensitivities, its particular relationship with formality and informality — and we build our advisory around it, not around imported frameworks that do not quite fit.
Whether your organisation is a growing technology firm, a professional services business, or an established operation investing in its people experience for the first time, Orenda Works can help you put better habits in place — without drama, without overpromising, and without a long contractual tail.
